GLOBE Geometry Types

Geometry types in GLOBE reflect the form of case study site geometry that was uploaded, selected, or drawn in GLOBE during the case creation process to represent the geographic entity of the data presented in the case. The “Geom Type” field shows the automated classification of the case geometry. Below is a table describing the types of geometry classifications assigned by the GLOBE system with definitions and examples.

polygon single polygon polygon village, county, quadrat, plot, LS_scene, farm, field, parcel, park, protected, province, region Single contiguous area plots, quadrats, villages, counties, farms, etc.
mpolygon multiple polygons multiple polygons village, county, quadrat, plot, LS_scene, farm, field, parcel, park, protected, province, region Multiple areas a set of plots, quadrats, villages, counties, farms, etc. considered as a single site.
line line line river, stream, road single line (may have many continuous segments) streams, rivers, roads
pline polyline polyline; multiple lines multiple rivers, streams, roads networks of linear features Stream or road networks
